The Who - Baba O'Riley

Pete Townsend a écrit cette chanson (en 1971 pour l’album Who’s Next) à propos de la guerre du Vietnam.

Ce nom est un hommage à ses deux influences philosophiques et musicales Meher Baba (maître spirituel indien décédé en 1969, ayant fait vœu de silence et l’ayant maintenu durant 45 ans) et Terry Riley (musicien américain minimaliste « néo-classique »).

Outre ses talents de musicien et d'auteur, Townsend avait une certaine détente verticale !

“Teenage wasteland” : vain sacrifice d’ados. Le genre d’expression très intraduisible en vérité. Le gaspillage de la vie de jeunes adolescents américains au Vietnam.

Un petit aparté, as we froggies say. Or as the Monty Python said themselves :
"And now for something completely different" : as I was reading about this guru who made a vow  of silence, it reminded me of this film extract, which very much captures the spirit of what I think about religion.
