The Sound étaient considérés comme un groupe de post-punk des années 80. C'est plutôt un groupe de new wave. Quoi qu'il en soit, ce besoin de coller des étiquettes est énervant, d'autant que j'en viens à le faire aussi.

Il a beaucoup été dit que The Sound n'a pas eu le succès qu'ils auraient dû mériter, et que cet état de fait aurait in fine conduit Adrian Borland à se suicider en 1999 en gare de Wimbledon à Londres. Il est vrai qu'ils n'ont pas eu le succès de Joy Division ou d'Echo And The Bunnymen (d'aucuns ont allégué que leur "son" était entre ces deux groupes, je trouve que c'est encore un exemple de cette volonté lassante de vouloir catégoriser toutes choses.

Avant que de former The Sound, le groupe de Borland s'appelait The Outsiders (76-79). Adrian Janes en faisait partie et a continué à collaborer queque peu incognito avec Borland pour The Sound, écrivant certaines des paroles de leur chanson. Est-ce le cas ici ? Je crainss que cela ne soit pas su.

The Sound were labelled a post-punk band; they were around during the new wave period. Much has been said about the fact that they did not get the popular acclaim they deserved. Truth is they went a bit under the radar, compared to Joy Division or Echo And The Bunnymen (it's been purported that they "sound" in between these two bands, which if you ask me is crap).
 

Lyricswise, Borland was one of the eighties rock songwriters whose lyrics are worth reading on thier own. Former Outsider (the previous Borland band 76-79) Adrian Janes stuck around, remaining involved with Borland in a behind-the-scenes manner, writing some of the band's lyrics with his former bandmate.
