J'ai traduit cette chanson en vers français. Ce n'est la plupart du temps pas possible sans tordre et déformer les paroles, sans réécrire en fait la chanson. Il s'est avéré que là c'était possible.

Donovan toujours au Mojo Magazine en 2011 : "Il y avait cette impression, même à l'époque, que tout n'était pas si rose dans le Jardin d'Eden". "Les dealers devenaient bohème et les drogues dures commencaient à arriver. La chanson est aussi prophétique, ça parlait de l'arrestation, bien qu'à l'évidence je ne le savais pas encore en l'écrivant."
J'ai creusé un peu, et je ne vois pas en quoi les paroles seraient prophétiques ou annonciatrices de cela. Mais si c'est lui qui l'a dit... Il peut aussi l'avoir dit "under the influence" comme on dit aux USA.

Donovan, né en Écosse en 1947, a enregistré cette chanson en 1966. A 19/20 ans donc, dans son troisième album, Sunshine Superman.

"There was a feeling, even then, that all was not perfect in the Garden of Eden," he said of the song in an interview with Mojo magazine June 2011. "Dealers were moving into bohemia and hard drugs were on the fringes. The song was also prophetic. It was about the bust, although of course I couldn't know that then."
