Stealers Wheel - Coincé Au Milieu Avec Toi
.
.
.
.

Rafferty said in an interview with the Record Collector magasine: “We signed a contract with a big American company and they threw a launch party in a chic restaurant in Chelsea. There was a huge table with about 50 people there, record company executives and their wives, and musicians and their wives, and the wine was flowing. It was a boisterous evening, but I was sandwiched between two rather boring label executives and their wives. Two days later, Joe Egan and I sat down and we wrote that song in half an hour.”

The vocal sounds a lot like Bob Dylan, and the song is often described as a Dylan pastiche or parody. The band members were open about the Dylan influence, but accounts differ on how deliberate the imitation was. Egan’s lead vocal, with Rafferty on harmonies, accounts for much of the resemblance.
The song is usually said to come from the band’s own experience of music-industry dinners and parties, where they felt surrounded by hangers-on and executives while the business side of the group was getting messy. The narrator is trapped in a social situation he finds both absurd and unbearable, which gives the song its wry, nervous humor.
The group was plagued by management and legal disputes, and Rafferty left more than once. They broke up around 1975 after three albums. Rafferty then had a major solo success with “Baker Street” (1978), while Egan remained in the music business more quietly.

In 1992, Quentin Tarantino used the song in the infamous ear-cutting scene of Reservoir Dogs, with Michael Madsen’s Mr. Blonde dancing to it. Tarantino has explained that he wanted a cheerful, bouncy song to contrast with the violence, and the song was reportedly chosen for exactly that irony. Madsen has described the dance as largely improvised. The film introduced the song to a new generation, and it permanently changed how many people hear it.

Stealers Wheel - Stuck In The Middle With You
Well, I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
.
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
And I'm wondering what it is I should do
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
.
Well, you started off with nothing
And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your friends they all come crawlin'
Slap you on the back and say, "Please, please"
.
Trying to make some sense of it all
But I can see it makes no sense at all
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor?
Well, I don't think I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
.
Well, you started out with nothing
And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your friends they all come crawlin'
Slap you on the back and say, "Please, please"
Yeah, I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you
.
Yes, I'm stuck in the middle with you
Stuck in the middle with you
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.
