Stranglers - The Man They Love To Hate

Hugh Cornwell a écrit ces paroles, réflexion sur l'amour-haine qu'une femme peut porter à un homme. Les deux couplets décrivant les parents de cet homme (bigots, rangés, ternes, le père violent, la mère éteinte) suggèrent peut-être que le carcan de sa triste éducation se reproduit quand sa femme ne peut échapper à cet homme qu'elle aime et hait à la fois.

La chanson fait partie de l'album La Foile en 1981.

Hugh Cornwell wrote these lyrics, mulling over the love-hate a woman may feel for a man. The two verses describing the parents of the male character in the song (a bigot, unveventful and dull couple; the abusive father and the subdued mother) perhaps suggest that the straightjacket of his sad upbringing is reproduced when his wife cannot escape from him, the man she loves and hates.

The song was released in the La Folie album in 1981.
